North Dakota-based Tharaldson Hospitality Management has revived its construction of a SpringHill Suites hotel in Folsom.
The 122-room property secured its construction approvals from the city of Folsom in October 2007. Tharaldson began work soon after on the landscaping and lighting, and then the project suddenly stopped as the nation went into recession, said Steve Banks, Folsom senior planner.
Construction began again earlier this year on the four-story property, which is at the southeast corner of Iron Point Drive and East Bidwell Street, just north of the Bidwell Street exit on Highway 50.
The SpringHill brand is a line of Marriott International Inc. The SpringHill hotels offer suites that are larger than regular hotel rooms, and they feature mini refrigerators and microwave ovens, as well as complimentary hot breakfast. The suites feature separate areas for sleeping and leisure.
Fargo-based Tharaldson has built many hotels in the region. In the 1990s, it built five hotels in Roseville, two in Folsom, one in Rancho Cordova. The company sold off a large portfolio of its hotels, and then began developing a series of new hotel properties. Tharaldson currently owns and manages three hotels in the region, including a SpringHill Suites and TownPlace Suites in Roseville and Staybridge Suites in north Natomas. The company manages 23 hotels in 10 states.
